Head of Department's Message

Welcome to the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Ghana. The Department was established as one of the five Departments of the Faculty of Engineering Sciences in 2003 and admitted its first batch of students in the 2004/2005 Academic year. This pioneering batch of students will graduate in November, 2008.

Biomedical Engineering was virtually unknown in Ghana at the time the Department was established, but we believe the activities of the Department have already started the campaign to educate the public on the work of biomedical engineers and the need for biomedical engineering professionals in any healthcare system. There is still more work to be done.

As you navigate our website, you will notice that the youth of the Department has not deterred it from setting and achieving lofty goals due to a profound commitment to diligence and excellence. Afterall, the Lugandan Proverb,

warns us not to scorn the youth due to their potential ability to teach their elders to dance. We intend to continue to blaze the path of innovation and we expect our graduates to make a difference wherever they find themselves.
